To Those Who Admit Fault

I was like you,
once.
I believed that strength
or power
or whatever you want to call it
meant indifference;
to ignore one’s feelings
as if it made you
less human
for allowing yourself to feel.
And,
also like you,
I was wrong.
Power,
true power,
is in embracing
what makes us human.
It is embracing sadness
and pain,
reveling
in conflict
so that when we emerge,
we find an incredibly rich and profound
humility and respect
for the warmth and joy
that this life has to offer.
In fact,
the weakest thing
you could possibly do
is to ignore
your greatest strength;
your own self.

One day you will see.
And you will be glad you did.
I promise.
