To Douse A Fire

They told me about the Christmas party.
How you
were in this incredible dress
that no doubt flaunted your
‘personality.’
At first
I saw you as this
force of nature
of a woman.
Too strong to be brought down
by the opinions of others.
How little
I truly knew of you.
You needed their opinions
to stand on,
because having to rely on your own
would have been just
too much,
wouldn’t it?
And then you wonder
why you are in so much pain.
You are a fool,
and we both know
that dress was only
a desperate cry
for attention.
Much like your entire life,
now that I know better.
