End of Line

I saw your picture today.
It just sort of
popped up
in the midst of closing
old programs
on my phone.
I never remembered your eyes
being so brown,
like desert sage
after a nourishing
summer storm.
I had forgotten
just how daintily
your chestnut hair would waltz
above your collarbone
and how,
even though you were embarassed
of your smile,
it would always stun me
in ways my heart
could not explain.
It’s sad,
really,
how one person can be your world
one day,
and the next
just another forgotten picture
on your phone.
